Air quality impact studies utilize air quality models to relate air pollutant emission rates and regional meteorology to ambient air pollutant levels. The modeling capabilities of K&A include AERMOD and ISC for short-range (<50 km) modeling, the CALPUFF long range transport model, the SCREEN models for screening, the TEXIN, MOBIL and CALINE mobile source models, the DEGADIS, SLAB, AFTOX, and TSCREEN accidental release models, the VISCREEN, and IWAQM Regional Haze Assessment visibility models and the STAMINA and OPTIMA FHWAs traffic noise models.
Models incorporate emissions data, meteorological conditions, geographical features, and measured air quality data to provide the best available means of predicting future air quality or expanding knowledge of existing air quality. These models also enable a detailed regional assessment of the impact of an existing air pollution source when only limited ambient air quality data are available. In addition, air quality models allow for the development and assessment of control strategies, as well as the impact assessment of proposed developments on air quality.
These models have been successfully utilized by K&A on projects for a variety of industries, and our staff is thoroughly familiar with both state and federal modeling protocols and the development of the data to input into these models.
Clients include CEMEX Cement, Inc., PCS Phosphates-White Springs, Mosaic Fertilizer, CF Industries, West Virginia Pulp and Paper Company, Swift & Company, Tampa Electric Company, Florida Power and Light Company, Gulf Power Company, Glades County Sugar Growers Cooperative, Hess Corporation, Florida Crushed Stone Company, Rinker Materials, Florida Rock Industries, Unocal, the State of Florida, the State of Wisconsin, the State of Mississippi, and the Environmental Protection Agency.
In addition, the staff of K&A has experience in permitting and environmental compliance for the Florida sugar industry's biomass-burning cogeneration facilities.
An integral part of air quality studies is the evaluation of meteorological conditions. K&A can design, install and maintain meteorological monitoring stations, and interpret the meteorological data as a routine monthly service to clients.
