Environmental impact statements are required for several reasons. Examples include Environmental Impact Statements (EIS) required by the National Environmental Policy Act, studies required by state and federal agencies for Developments of Regional Impact, and Permitting required by the Federal Clean Air and Clean Water Act.

K&A has prepared major Environmental Impact Statements while concurrently completing the air quality, meteorology and radiology sections of the EIS as well as similar sections in other EIS documents. Additionally, the company has managed the preparation of Applications for Development Approval (ADA) for major residential and industrial developments and in the preparation of Power Plant Site Certification applications.

Participation in these projects includes the development of site meteorology and air quality data, the evaluation of the impact of the proposed facility on ambient air quality, and the design and implementation of air quality monitoring networks to gather background and operating air quality data. Power plant siting projects have included permitting for the Gainesville Regional Utilities coal-fired power plant in Alachua County, Florida and the Florida Crushed Stone coal-fired power plant in Hernando County, Florida. K&A has also successfully managed EISs for phosphate mining and processing plants, exploratory petroleum drilling, fossil and nuclear power plant siting and sulfur recovery facilities.
